Winchester: Space for Peace, 27th January

(0)

Category : Winchester

A CHORAL event at Winchester Cathedral to promote peace is being held next Wednesday (January 27). Organised by the city’s university, it aims to bring together several choirs and a host of musical styles from across the globe. Professor June Boyce-Tillman will lead the interfaith event, and it follows on from a similar concert at the cathedral in early 2009. The performers will tackle a range of motets, hymns, religious songs, chants and music from other alternative faiths.

50 places to see before you die, according to 20,000 viewers of the BBC’s “Holiday” programme (2003?). See also interesting article “things to do-before-you-die-ism“, and my travelblog(I never quite finished the text – I blame the chest infection I got on Europe Tour! Decided to make myself feel grateful for all the opportunities I have already had to travel – and you can pretty much assume if I haven’t been somewhere, I want to go there…

Another glorious waste of time… it doesn’t set itself any limits on the number of questions, but amazing that some kind of mathematical formula can be right so many times – I had 3 goes (Bridget Jones, God, Richard Hammond) and it got all 3 of those – can see some people trying with some cryptic ones, but I guess it absorbs those for next time… Akinator – also on the iPhone (£1.19)!

Nuns on the Run

Used to think this film was a hoot, so this 4 mile race, on behalf of Barnardos, caught my eye.

After my chest infection (started in Rome on the Europe Tour, June 2008 – well, at least it was somewhere exotic), my fitness has deteriorated massively, so in November I was prescribed “exercise” (I asked if it was possible, give me that little push back to the gym that I used to love going to!), so I have been making it down twice a week, excepting skiing/cold/snowbound over the last 3 weeks. Back in today (I walked, my car is snowed in again!), met with GP-Referral lovely Lydia, and said I’d been trying to run again, but that about 1.5 minutes was my limit… so she ‘prescribed’ trying a slower speed (7.5, rather than 9.5, I used to get up to 11.5) for 2 mins, then walk for 1-2 – and with that I managed 6 minutes + the intervals, and then decided I needed a target to aim for! Karen gave me this book for my birthday last year, as she knows I have run before (and we did the Moonwalk together) and once I’m out there, find it really helps my mindset!

So, there we are, 2nd May 2010, I shall be running 4 miles around London dressed as a nun (so that’s going to be an early start for me too!) – apparently Barnardos are likely to be in touch re-fund-raising, but I’d love your encouragement :-)

Free Snow?

Thanks to Helen Hobbs for bringing this to my attention…  Wonder if I should sell melted snow… but it doesn’t seem to be bringing in much (where did you get “Latest bid is £830,100.00″ from, Helen?) ! Love the way it is categorised under sporting goods and skiing accessories – have had many a good ski holiday a bit dampened by a lack of snow!

Thanks Pennie Ley for the reminder of this video – seen it before – can’t help but smile when you watch it!  Reminds me of the Winchester Flashmob.

Punctuation Saves Lives

‘Let’s eat Grandma!’ or, ‘Let’s eat, Grandma!’ Punctuation saves lives is the name of this awesome group on Facebook – if you can’t see the difference between the 2 statements, then you seriously need to undertake some study skills sessions! There’s of course ‘Eat Shoots and Leaves‘, but I find the more amusing touch appropriate too, including the ‘Bad Grammar – The Way I Are‘ parody appearing above, and this one has also been highlighted.

Well done Mike

If you like your music, and have already checked out tunechecker.com, it’s worth it! Developed by Money Saving Expert.com, has saved a few pennies already! Just been downloading Bon Jovi as I appear to be going to the tour on 22nd June, with Phil, Rach and the 4th mystery buyer! Really enjoyed the last time I saw them on tour, though not a die-hard fan of any group – course I’m not- I’m a scanner!
