“Ask a learner who has been in a virtual world what they think and you may hear that they love that they get to explore new places and meet new people. Ask another and you might hear that they hate feeling disoriented or even nauseated. These individual anecdotes can be lively, funny and curious—but they are not a basis on which to make decisions about whether your organization will undertake a virtual world learning project. As part of a recent project, I had the opportunity to survey nearly 300 students who had just participated in a constructivist learning experience in Second Life (SL) –to learn what they loved, hated and would like to see changed.
