January 4th

Don’t worry, I’ll get bored of this soon, or start drowning in other work, but so far today I have written an AimHigher session, finished an exam paper, rang the tax office (one of those calls which has moved daily across Outlook), chased up an insurance claim, taken delivery of a (very powerful, especially when braking) hire car and sent my little car off to be repaired (my neighbour drove into it taking out the right wing), been to the gym &  Tesco, and started work on 3 lectures… oh and written some blogs about my trip to Switzerland:

Portwiture

In reading other’s Twitter updates, I came across an interesting tool: “Portwiture“, which reads your recent tweets (I’m not sure how recent, but I tried this out yesterday and today, and the images had changed significantly, so I’m assuming it works on the most recent tweets only) and turns them into a pictorial montage. At first, appearing like a bit of fun, I was extremely pleased to see that sfdo‘s tweet stream very much reflects the core message of the company – adrenalin sports!

I then took a montage at around 10.15am today of each of the tweet streams that I manage to see how far they reflected each of those messages:

drbexl-smalland I’m thinking that’s quite a good reflection of @drbexl also!

digitalfprint-smallWell, @digitalfprint‘s stream is definitely reflecting my interests in Twitter and social media in general!

ww2poster-smallI’m not entirely sure what that reflects, but there’s definitely some history in @ww2poster‘s tweetstream!

Well, @skillsnetwinch hasn’t really been fully developed yet, so that’s a bit vague!

Again, @nwccgathering is still very new!

Super Fun Days Out (SFDO) (2009)

SuperfundaysoutLove Life, Live It!

In 2008, Yaz El-Hakim, Hugh Bassett-Jones and Dominic Northcott, all staff at the University of Winchester, had a vision for “the best, most comprehensive, most intuitive and free of charge directory for anyone wanting to take part in any extreme or adrenaline sports anywhere in the country.” . Facing stiff  competition from others at the University of Winchester, Super Fun Days Out was one of only two successful businesses in the November 2008 rounds for new business start-ups, and the funding has been put to good use.  Read more.

In April 2009, I checked over the website and gave the guys some advice on how it could become more interactive, and the potential for using social media to encourage repeat visitors! In July 2009, I was asked, along with Helen Owten, to come on board as social media strategist, with a particular responsibility for Twitter (at that time standing at 11 followers), setting up a blog (which is gradually coming to life), and bookmarking through sites such as a Delicious (which is still really awaiting its turn!), whilst Helen was responsible for Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. I’m really enjoying the challenge of being more structured in my approach to a blog, and looking for ways to encourage engagement… and using that knowledge in improving my other social media strategies!

Apologies

AdrenablogBeen away, and taking up a new part-time teaching position at the University of Winchester (in History, with some Media Studies teaching on top), whilst still applying for other odds/ends, and developing content/structure for Adrenablog. This business is still very much on my agenda, and will continue to develop shortly, and I am very much making use of the Twitter feed!
